The outline of care is always discussed as the child progresses through the various areas of the center’s programs. These following areas are utilized as needed for each individual case:
Forensic Medical Exams – Medical diagnosis, evaluation and nursing assessments are provided by the University of Florida Child Protection Team, who are experts in their field, to supplement the investigative activities in reported cases of child abuse.
Forensic Interviews – Provided through our partnership with the University of Florida Child Protection Team, these evidence-gathering interviews are conducted by specially trained interviewers utilizing audio and video recording equipment in our warm, comfortable interview rooms.
Victim-centered advocacy support services are provided by individuals specially trained in child maltreatment and the provision of victim services. The advocates provide services which may include: crisis intervention, forensic interviews, needs assessment, court accompaniment, system navigation assistance, and resource coordination to ensure a consistent, comprehensive, and effective network of support for the child and family.
Evidence-based therapy is provided by licensed clinicians with specialized training in child maltreatment and trauma reactions. Each child’s treatment is provided according to his or her individual emotional, psychological and developmental needs. Individual, family, and group therapy treatments are provided to children and their family members using a variety of treatment methods, such as: Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Psychoeducational Activities, Sand Tray and Gardening.
Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Case Review
The collaboration of professionals from specific, distinct disciplines on cases involving child maltreatment is the foundation of the Children’s Advocacy Center model. Jessie’s Place serves as the inter-agency coordinated response center hosting case review meetings where MDT members contribute their knowledge, experience, and expertise. The coordinated MDT approach facilitates efficient communication and information sharing, ongoing involvement of key individuals, and support for children and facilities.
