When we met her, Maria was a 5-year-old little girl who was the victim of sexual abuse in her home by an uncle who cared for her in the evenings while her parents worked.
Child abuse incidences — both physical and sexual — are on the rise, not only in Citrus County, but across the United States. Since children are our most valuable resource, it is our job to help these innocent victims heal so they can become productive, healthy adults.
The primary goal of all CACs is to ensure that children are not further victimized by the intervention systems designed to protect them.
After the initial investigation these children are also in need of therapeutic services to overcome their victimization.
The Internet provides an opportunity for children to learn, explore their world, and socialize with friends. By understanding the potential dangers your children face, you can educate them and help them have safer digital experiences.
The Citrus County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) is a safe, child friendly environment that eliminates the need for multiple interviews during investigations of suspected abuse. By utilizing the CAC, investigators can coordinate their efforts and begin the investigative process with a minimal amount of stress to your child.
